Instrument Transformers

With the advent and growth of the high voltage transmission lines, which deliver power across the length and breadth of the country, there is a critical requirement to accurately meter the transmitted quantity.

Instrument transformers are used to step down the voltage to allow metering equipment to measure the power flowing through the network and are part of the critical infrastructure of the country.

PEC resistors have been used extensively in Instrument transformers and have proven to be highly reliable over 20 years of use. Typically high power tubular resistors with Inert Vitreous Enamel coating (PVR, PVRC series) are used to ensure zero contamination of the transformer oil so that the insulation properties do not deteriorate even after extended use over many years.

Alternative designs include uncoated tubular resistors which are preferred by some designers.
